3C Borehole Fiber Optical Sensors

The world's most advanced all-optical downhole seismic array — designed for decades of permanent CCS monitoring and high-temperature (300+ C) deployments.

MagiQ Technologies applies over 20 years of quantum photonics research to geophysical sensing. The GeoLite borehole seismic monitoring system is the first fully optical, electronics-free 3-component (3C) downhole seismic array designed for permanent deployment on CO₂ injection tubing in the tubing-casing annulus or high-temperature geothermal wells — no dedicated monitor wells required.

Key Differentiators

〰️
Full 3C Wavefield

Captures particle motion in all three orthogonal directions — X, Y, and Z — enabling precise microseismic hypocentral location and wave-type discrimination, which DAS alone cannot achieve.

No Downhole Electronics

Passive optical sensors using Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) and modulated laser interrogation. Immune to EMI, corrosion, and temperature degradation — suitable for wells exceeding 300°C.

High Multiplexing

TDM + WDM architecture supports up to 20 × 3C sensors per fiber strand, with auxiliary fibers for simultaneous DAS, DTS, and optical PT gauge integration.

🎯
Microseismic to −4 Mw

High-sensitivity 3C sensors detect weak microseismic events that surface arrays would miss — including early caprock breach indicators and pressure-front signals as well as geothermal fracture networks.

Sensor OD 1.25 inch
Detection floor −4 Mw
Deployment Tubing, Casing, Wireline
Electronics downhole None
Max temperature >300°C

Surface Seismometer Solutions

Autonomous, cost-effective seismic monitoring stations — equal to conventional seismometers at a fraction of the cost.

SensorEra is a Houston-based developer of next-generation autonomous seismometer stations purpose-built for induced seismicity and C02 plume monitoring. The SeismicityAlert® platform replaces expensive force-balance seismometers with a dual 6C+9C sensor architecture that captures weak microseismic events and strong-motion PGA data — all streaming to a real-time cloud portal.

Key Differentiators

🌍
6C + 9C Dual Sensor

The MASS-9C (3C velocity + 3C MEMS accelerometer + 3C magnetometer) self-orients on installation. The 6C geophone uses four stacked vertical elements to minimize incoherent noise, resolving events from −1.5 Mw upward.

☁️
Real-Time Cloud Portal

Ultra-low noise ADC with proprietary on-chip compression streams via 4G or satellite. Priority alerts by email, SMS or automated voice — with full event logs.

🔌
Integrated Sensor Gateway

The same data logger accepts gas detectors (CO₂, methane), wellhead pressure, groundwater samplers, and weather stations — providing a single portal for all site sensors.

Publicly Validated

Station S8.MB01 was donated to the State of Texas and is co-sited with Texnet TX.MB12 traditional seismometer — both accessible via the IRIS earthquake catalog for independent comparison.

Detection floor −1.5 Mw
Sensor type 6C + 9C
Connectivity 4G / Satellite
Power Solar autonomous
Third-party sensors Gas, pressure, water, weather

The Surface Linear Vibrator (SLV)

The only autonomous, solar-powered seismic source capable of daily, repeatable frequency sweeps — permanently deployed on a helical anchor.

GPUSA is the developer of the Surface Linear Vibrator (SLV) — a novel permanent seismic source for temporally dense, spatially sparse 4D monitoring. By mounting synchronized eccentric motors on a hollow steel helical anchor driven up to 100 ft into the ground, the SLV achieves Vibroseis-class coupling without the weight or cost of a traditional truck-mounted source.

Key Differentiators

Deep Helical Anchor Coupling

Unlike surface-coupled vibrators like Vibroseis, the SLV anchor is locked in below the attenuating near-surface low-velocity zone — critical for 4D repeatability. Anchors can be installed in marshland, swamp, challenging terrain and shallow waters.

☀️
Solar-Powered Autonomy

An off-grid solar-charged power station converts DC to 480V three-phase AC. The SLV runs unattended on a customizable sweep schedule or by remote internet control from any connected device.

📐
Stackable & Scalable

Multiple SLVs can be combined in-phase for higher force output, or configured out-of-phase as a phased source array.

🔄
Force-Feedback Control

Proprietary source controller maintains synchronized motors across the full sweep, ensuring consistent output and repeatability for time-lapse comparison — field-tested against Vibroseis with comaprable data down to 10,000ft.

Weight ~300 lb
Output force >11,000 lb (P-wave)
Frequency range 0–200 Hz
Anchor depth Up to 100 ft
